A price comparison survey by Al Eqtisadiah has revealed significant differences in product prices among Saudi supermarkets. The findings were published by the newspaper’s Financial Analysis Unit, which conducted a detailed survey of essential food commodity prices across major supermarket chains in the Kingdom for 2024.

The study compared consumer prices of key household staples — including rice, sugar, chicken, vegetable oil, eggs, flour, and tea — sold by leading retail chains. According to the survey, LuLu Hypermarket topped the list for affordability, recording the lowest total basket value of 571 riyals. Al Danube recorded the highest total basket value at 615 riyals, marking a 7.7 percent difference between the lowest and highest price levels.

In the same comparison, Carrefour’s basket was priced at 613 riyals, Panda’s at 604 riyals, Tamimi’s at 601 riyals, Alsadhan at 593 riyals, and Al Othaim’s at 586 riyals.

Market analysts observed that LuLu’s stable pricing strategies, maintained even amid global market fluctuations, have been key to its strong performance and consumer trust.
