Empowering Vision 2030: Cisco’s Blueprint for Saudi Arabia’s AI Future Through AI-Ready Infrastructure

By Tarik Al Turki, Director of Solutions Engineering at Cisco Saudi Arabia
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia stands out among a select group of countries for its ambitious and agile approach to national AI implementation. Country-wide programs and partnerships, including collaborations like the one Cisco’s recently announced with King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) to establish a dedicated Artificial Intelligence Institute, are creating a strong pipeline of local engineers capable of shaping the next generations of AI.
The success of AI implemention rests on an often-overlooked enabler: the network. As nations like Saudi Arabia accelerate their AI agendas by investing in compute, data, and talent, the conversation must include the most fundamental layer of digital transformation. No algorithm can function without connectivity that is fast, intelligent, and secure enough to sustain it.
As adoption accelerates, existing architectures struggle to deliver the scale, low latency, and resilience AI workloads require. In KSA, according to Cisco AI Readiness Index 2025, only 36% of organizations report their current infrastructure and data environments are prepared for AI. To move beyond pilots, enterprises require modernized, AI-native networking as the foundation for competitiveness.
Rising Infrastructure Pressure
The demand for AI-ready networking has never been more critical. According to Cisco’s 2025 Networking Research, all IT leaders in KSA anticipate that AI, along with IoT and cloud computing, will significantly impact their networks in the coming years. This shift marks a fundamental change in how organizations must think about their infrastructure. The traditional view of networks as static, siloed systems is no longer applicable. Instead, networks must evolve into dynamic, intelligent frameworks capable of supporting the complexities of AI-driven workloads.
Moving Past Legacy Constraints
AI workloads introduce unique challenges that traditional architectures struggle to meet. These workloads require vast amounts of bandwidth, ultra-low latency and the ability to adapt in real-time to fluctuating demands; all while remaining resilient. Failing to meet these requirements can be profound. Cisco’s networking research highlights that 73% of IT leaders reported experiencing major outages in the last two years, resulting in significant revenue losses. Such disruptions not only impact finances but also erode trust and hinder future opportunities. When downtime can cost billions, the need for resilient networks has never been clearer.
The Business Impact
Robust AI-ready networks yield substantial economic benefits, driving revenue growth and operational efficiency. Over one in two leaders believe that AI tools will significantly impact revenue, with 43% of KSA respondents to our most recent AI Readiness Index recognizing that AI can generate new revenue streams through their use cases. Recognizing this, a remarkable 94% of IT leaders plan to increase networking budgets, viewing it as a strategic investment to fully leverage AI, not merely a cost.
Security at the Core
The importance of secure networking cannot be overstated. As cyber threats become increasingly sophisticated, powered by AI; networks must act as the first line of defense. Cisco networking research reveals that 98% of KSA IT leaders recognize the necessity of secure networks for business growth and operations. In this context, AI-native networks go further than enhancing operational efficiency; they better safeguard data, applications and reputation. If and when organizations invest in these capabilities, they will not only protect themselves from evolving threats but also position themselves for long-term success.
It Pays Off
The economic implications of robust AI-ready networks are substantial. A modernized network can drive revenue growth and operational efficiency, creating an advantage when competition is ever-increasing. We found that just over one in two leaders believe that AI tools, which automate and personalize customer experiences, will significantly impact revenue. And, in KSA, 43 percent of respondents to our latest AI Readiness Index recognize that AI can generate new revenue streams through their use cases.
In light of these findings, it is clear that leaders must adapt their strategies to align with the demands of AI. A remarkable 91 percent of KSA IT leaders plan to increase their IT budget for networking, reflecting a growing recognition of the need for modernized infrastructures. Importantly, these leaders often recognize this is not a cost; it is a strategic move that will enable their organizations to fully leverage the advantages of AI.
Beyond IT: Networking as a Strategic Business Imperative
Prioritizing AI-ready networking is crucial for organizations and policymakers alike. The network is no longer merely an IT concern, but a strategic asset defining the future of economies and enterprises. Investing in flexible, intelligent, and secure networks unlocks AI’s full potential, drives efficiency, and ensures a sustainable competitive edge.
AI-native networking, with its focus on automation, observability, and energy efficiency, is vital for digital competitiveness, streamlining operations, and addressing sustainability. In addition, as cyber threats grow more advanced with AI, networks need to serve as the primary layer of protection. AI-native capabilities enhance operational efficiency while safeguarding data, applications, and reputation.
The decisions made today regarding networking infrastructures will shape the businesses of tomorrow. AI-ready networks are essential for seizing opportunities and leading in an increasingly competitive digital economy. The journey toward an AI-powered future begins with a commitment to building resilient, intelligent networks that can support the demands of what is just over the horizon.
